ABOUT THE ART

Tem "T.S." Larking creates imaginative artwork inspired by the beauty of nature, decorative traditions, and timeless storytelling. Drawing upon influences that range from Art Nouveau and the Golden Age of Illustration to contemporary digital techniques, she blends these inspirations into a style that is distinctly her own.

She creates art for puzzles, diamond paintings, cross stitch, fabric, greeting cards, home décor, and other licensed products, always with the goal of creating images that invite people to pause, smile, and wonder.

The Alchemy of the Canvas: My Hybrid Process

Artistic expression has always been an evolution. Across my 20-year journey as an independent illustrator and designer, my toolset has expanded, but my core dedication to creating beauty has never wavered. Today, my signature style is born from a highly intensive, hybrid workflow that bridges traditional fine art sensibilities, digital craftsmanship, and the bleeding edge of modern generative technology. [1, 2, 3]

Because I value absolute transparency with my collectors and licensees, I proudly label my modern portfolio as technology-enhanced. However, in an era of "one-click" digital generation, the actual human labor poured into my studio remains a deeply intensive labor of love

Evolving the Initial Spark

My creative process is fluid and varies with every canvas. I do not follow a rigid template; instead, I treat modern generative technology as a complex digital lens to explore ideas. Depending on the piece, I might begin with a raw color arrangement, a digital collage, a hand-drawn sketch, or a conceptual layout.

I spend grueling hours "evolving" these initial rough ideas. By constantly adjusting technical settings, uploading my own underlying artwork, and guiding the algorithm through hundreds of iterations, I ensure that my personal artistry, color theory, and vision heavily shape the image from its very inception.

The 500-Layer Reality

Every final masterpiece is an incredibly complex digital collage. Using Photoshop, I seamlessly blend hundreds of individual layers to construct the final image. This phase demands brutal, meticulous hours of: [1, 2]

  • Pixel-by-Pixel Repainting: Completely erasing machine artifacts, re-drawing flawed anatomy, and sharpening blurry textures by hand.

  • Intricate Micro-Detailing: Hand-painting the microscopic filigrees, iridescent glows, and hidden gems that give my work its signature "confetti" depth on a diamond painting canvas.

  • Complex Texturing: Overlaying my own physical ink-and-paint patterns to inject human warmth back into the digital realm. [1]

Driven by Passion, Defined by Pride

This hybrid method is physically demanding and mentally exhausting. It requires an immense expenditure of time, focus, and energy to perfect a workflow that allows me to build worlds that were simply impossible to create in years past. I pour my entire lifeblood into these canvases because I love the gift of Creation, and I want to share that inspiration with you. [1]

I do not compromise on my process, and I do not compromise on my honesty. When you hold a T.S. Larking Studios puzzle, fabric panel, or diamond painting kit, you are looking at an artwork that was fought for—pixel by pixel, layer by layer.

Thank you for recognizing the deep human devotion that brings these vibrant worlds to life. [1]

A Few Favorite Things

Design and Composition are major passions, along with music, cooking, dance, and books.  If she's not working, she's taking care of loved ones (felines included), occasionally creating musical arrangements, or watching a classic film.

She hopes to promote joy, healing, faith, and love for the gift of Creation through her work, her deepest hope as an artist is to share beauty and inspiration with others.
